Gold is deeply woven into Pakistani culture — bought for weddings, saved as a hedge, and given as gifts at births and milestones. But the price of gold moves daily, and the number quoted in the Sarafa market depends on the international spot price, the dollar-rupee exchange rate and local supply and demand. This gold calculator ties all of those together into one instant valuation.
The calculator starts from the international spot price of gold (US dollars per troy ounce) fetched from our live market feed. It converts that to the weight unit you choose — grams, tolas or troy ounces — applies the purity of your gold (24K down to 16K), and finally converts the value into Pakistani Rupees at the live interbank rate. The result is the pure metal value of your gold.
Understanding karats is essential. 24K gold is 99.9% pure and is what international spot prices refer to. 22K (91.7% pure) is the standard for jewellery in Pakistan because pure gold is too soft for everyday wear; the remaining metal is alloy added for durability. 21K, 20K and 18K are increasingly used for fashion jewellery, and 16K is rare and lower in value. The calculator adjusts the value proportionally — 22K gold is worth 22/24 of the 24K price.
A tola is the traditional South Asian unit of gold — 11.66 grams — and the unit in which Pakistani newspapers and the Sarafa Association quote daily rates. Note that the local market rate typically includes a small premium above the international price, and jewellers add making charges and wastage on top of the metal value.
