About the Fuel Economy Calculator

The fuel economy calculator works out how efficiently your vehicle uses fuel, reporting the result in both kilometres per litre (km/L) and litres per 100 km (L/100km) — the two measures used in Pakistan and internationally. Knowing your car's true economy is the first step to controlling fuel costs as petrol prices rise.

The calculation is a simple ratio: divide the distance driven by the fuel used. If you drive 300 km and refill 25 litres, your economy is 12 km/L. The reciprocal — 100 divided by km/L — gives litres per 100 km: in this case about 8.3 L/100km, the measure used in most international fuel consumption figures.

Why do the two measures matter? Pakistani buyers think in km/L (a Suzuki Alto at 15–18 km/L, a Corolla at 12–14), while international reviews and EU-style spec sheets use L/100km, where a lower number is better. This calculator shows both, so you can compare a local car against an imported spec sheet on equal terms.

Your real-world economy is almost always lower than the brochure figure. Traffic, air conditioning, carrying loads, tyre pressure and driving style can cut economy by 20–30% in city driving. To measure your actual figure: fill the tank completely, note the odometer, drive normally, then refill and divide the kilometres by the litres pumped. Average over several tanks for reliability.

Track the number over time — a sudden drop in fuel economy is often the first sign of a mechanical issue, such as under-inflated tyres, a clogged air filter or spark plug problems. Regular checks save both fuel and repair costs.

How to measure your car's fuel economy

  1. 1

Fill the tank completely and note the odometer reading.

  2. 2

Drive as you normally would until the next refill.

  3. 3

At the next fill, note the kilometres driven and the litres it took to refill the tank.

  4. 4

Enter both numbers — the calculator shows your economy in km/L and L/100km.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good fuel economy?

Modern small cars in Pakistan typically achieve 13–18 km per litre, while larger SUVs manage 8–11 km per litre. Hybrids can exceed 20 km per litre.

What is good fuel economy in km/L?

Small hatchbacks in Pakistan typically achieve 15–18 km/L, sedans 12–14 km/L, and SUVs 7–11 km/L. Hybrids can exceed 20 km/L. City driving with air conditioning usually lowers these figures by 20–30%.

How do I improve my fuel economy?

Maintain correct tyre pressure, drive smoothly without hard acceleration or braking, reduce excess weight, service the air filter and spark plugs on schedule, and use air conditioning judiciously. These together can improve economy by 10–20%.

What is a good L/100km figure?

Lower is better: around 5–7 L/100km is excellent (typical of small or hybrid cars), 8–10 is average for a sedan, and above 12 is common for larger SUVs. Divide 100 by your km/L to convert.
